Celebrating ten years of our COPD Service

This September, we welcomed over 30 patients, health partners, and colleagues to celebrate the tenth anniversary of our COPD Service.

The service, which began in 2005 with the vision of Claire Madsen, our Deputy Clinical Director, and Mike Rossdale, a GP with a special interest in the area, now sees hundreds of patients every year with respiratory conditions.

“Pulmonary Rehabilitation classes have done wonders for me,” said one patient. “It was a marvellous service when I was poorly, and my life has changed so much over the past few weeks. I can now go up the stairs on my own; the service has given me my life back.”

The service, which once offered only exercise classes, now includes a focus on helping patients avoid an admission into hospital, and an oxygen administration service.

After deciding to leave the service, the event was also a celebration of Mike Rossdale’s dedication and commitment to the service over the past ten years. “I am proud that I have been able to change lives and make a difference; no problem is too small for the service to deal with.”
