Get Involved

Your Healthcare, Your Way

Bristol Community Health believes that the best community healthcare is when patients, carers and the public play a fundamental role at an individual, service and strategic level. We are working on new and exciting ways to involve you in the healthcare we provide for communities across Bristol; download our Patient and Public Empowerment Strategy to find out more. You can also view our executive summary of the strategy, and our action plan.

Why get involved?

Your feedback and ideas can help us to make sure our services are the very best they can be; person-centred and high quality, all of the time.

How can I get involved?

You can get involved at an individual level, with a particular service such as Physiotherapy or Community Nursing or by influencing what we do as an organisation. Email us to register your interest.

At an individual level this means:

  • Patients are supported by Bristol Community Health staff to share and make decisions about their care, their treatment options and their goals.
  • Patients and carers are able to provide feedback about their experience on any Bristol Community Health service, at a time that suits them and in a way that suits them.

At a service level this means:

  • Patients and carers have a range of ways they can be engaged and involved in shaping and improving services. Examples of this include involvement in focus groups, improving patient information, providing peer support or being part of the recruitment and training of Bristol Community Health staff.
  • Volunteers can play a role across Bristol Community Health services, providing practical support to patients and helping to make our services the very best they can be.

At a strategic level, this means:

  • Patients, carers and the public feel empowered to be involved in setting our priorities for community healthcare.
  • Patients and carers are not seen as passive recipients of care, they are seen as active participants in developing, shaping and influencing community healthcare. One example of this is to include helping us to decide priorities in our Quality Account or getting involved in our Patient Leadership work we will be launching in the near future.
