With January now over many people will be well into their New Year healthy eating regimes; but eating well is more than just weight management – that is the message from our nutrition and dietetics service, which now accepts self-referrals direct from patients.
Our nutrition and dietetics service supports people with health conditions which can be affected by changing food choices and lifestyle. The service is based in Henbury, Bristol, and supports patients in North Bristol, East Bristol and the inner city.
Our team of specialist dietitians provide support and advice to adult patients and carers with conditions including diabetes, heart disease, irritable bowel syndrome and coeliac disease. This includes one-to-one counselling, group education and teaching people about nutrition and health.
Our Clinical Lead for Nutrition and Dietetics said:
"A lot of people start thinking about their eating habits in the new year – usually with the aim of losing weight. However there is a lot more to eating well than just weight management and we're urging people to also use the new year as an opportunity to think about what they eat to help manage their health conditions.
"Our service can support people in Bristol to manage their diet when it is linked to a health condition, such as diabetes, irritable bowel or coeliac disease. We can also support people who are under-nourished, for example those who have a poor appetite.
"We now take self-referrals from patients so would be keen to hear from anyone who meets our criteria and needs support."
As well as self-referrals, people can also be referred to the service by their GP or other health professionals.
