What is the service?
Our Wound Care Service provides a comprehensive assessment of people who have non-healing wounds or wounds that are slow to heal and not progressing as they should. We provide assessment of complex wounds requiring advanced wound therapy treatments. We can also formulate treatment plans and review planned assessments as required.
What does this service do?
Our Specialist Nurses provide comprehensive assessment of any type of wound that is either complex or not healing well. Assessments are undertaken in a clinic or within the home of housebound patients.

Following assessment a treatment plan is drawn up and this is communicated back to either the practice nurse or community nurse who will undertake the care. Depending on the treatment plan, we may arrange reviews of the care to ensure that the wound is progressing as expected.
For wounds or oedema (swelling) on the lower limb, a Doppler assessment is undertaken to assess the circulation supply and to consider the use of compression bandaging. A number of advanced wound treatments can then be considered as necessary.
Who is this service for?
Patients who are:
-
over 16 years of age
-
registered with a Bristol-based general practitioner
-
under the care of a community nurse for their wound, except in exceptional circumstances
How can I access this service?
Referral into this service can be made by anyone and is usually accepted by fax on a Wound Care Service referral letter which is available in our Document Downloads section on the left of this screen.
Patients wishing to self refer will be accepted by telephone contact, please find our number below. If no one is available to take your call please leave us a message on our answerphone and we will get back to you as soon as possible.
Our service is open from Monday - Friday, 8:30am - 5pm, excluding bank holidays.
