Dermatology

What is this service?

Our Dermatology service can provide patients with:

  • diagnosis of a skin condition
  • support, education and treatment planning for people with chronic skin diseases

Covering all areas of Bristol, we operate from three different clinics so that patients can choose where they would like to be treated.

What does this service do?

We have two GPs with a special interest in dermatology who are able to diagnose skin conditions such as rashes and lesions, and perform some forms of skin surgery. We can treat some lesions and prescribe treatment for chronic skin conditions such as eczema and psoriasis.

We also have a small team of trained Dermatology nurses who run clinics for patients with diagnosed skin conditions like eczema and psoriasis. Within these clinics our nurses can help plan care and treatment regimes and provide emotional support to patients.

Our nursing team can visit housebound patients at home to support with their treatment. We can also arrange joint visits involving GP practice nurses and community nurses.

Who is this service for?

  • Patients of any age.

Please note, we are unable to accept referrals for patients who meet any of the criteria below. These patients should therefore be referred to hospital (secondary) care:

  • patients with acne and taking Roaccutane medication
  • patients with a suspected skin cancer such as Basal Cell Carcinoma (BCC) on the face or neck or Squamous Cell Carcinoma (SCC) and malignant melanoma anywhere on the body – these should be referred by GPs via the '2 week wait'.

How can I access this service?

Access is by referral only. Referrals can be made by any health care professional including GPs, Health Visitors, Community Nurses, Practice Nurses and Podiatrists. Referrals should be made using the NHS Choose and Book system or by faxing the referral form which is noto the number below.

Patients cannot refer themselves to the Dermatology service.
