Podiatry

What is this service?

Our podiatry service provides comprehensive foot care for conditions affecting the foot and leg, in a variety of community clinics across Bristol. We also offer courses of treatment for chronic medical conditions that affect foot health and / or a person's mobility.

What does this service do?

We provide podiatry services in community clinics and can also visit bed and chair bound patients at home. The treatment we provide will be based on a risk assessment.

The care we can provide includes:

  • immediate, short term and long term solutions to painful foot problems
  • minor surgery using local anaesthetic
  • prescribing aids to help with structural imbalances affecting the feet and legs
  • screening for potential foot problems
  • helpful advice on foot problems

we will prioritise care for individual patients who have:

  •  a medical condition or illness that may make it more difficult for damaged skin to heal, e.g. diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis or circulatory problems
  •  a disability which causes foot pain and/or affects mobility.
  •  a painful foot condition which affects mobility, e.g. ingrown toenails

Nail cutting is not routinely provided to all patients under the podiatry service. Access to a nail cutting service is provided to certain 'at risk' priority groups, where there is a clearly identified medical condition which may place the patient at risk of hospitalisation due to ulceration and potential amputation of a limb.

Who is this service for?

Our Podiatry service is for adults and children who have medical and foot health care needs.
