What is this service?

Our Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist can provide information, advice and support for people with Parkinson’s and for the carers, families and healthcare professionals involved in their care. More information can be found at Parkinsons UK.

What does this service offer?

We can provide care and support in the following ways:

  • a Specialist Nurse Assessment can look at the needs of each person with Parkinson’s, to monitor and review the effectiveness of Parkinson’s medication.
  • access to Specialist Nurse Clinics in the community.
  • telephone and e-mail contact with our Specialist Nurse
  • working in partnership with other people involved in caring for a person with Parkinson’s.
  • education of individuals, groups, and multidisciplinary Health and Social Care professionals to help promote a greater understanding and awareness of Parkinson’s.

Who is this service for?

This service is for people of all ages with a diagnosis of Parkinson’s. You must be registered with a Bristol GP practice.

If you are registered with a GP practice in South Gloucestershire your point of contact will be Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist Kathryn Prout on 0117 330 2521.

How can I access this service?

Access to this service is by referral only. You can ask your GP, consultant, or any healthcare professional involved in your care to refer you to our service. For referrals for patients based in the south, inner city and east areas of the city, a Parkinson’s Nurse Specialist referral form is available to download from this page. Alternatively GPs and Consultants may forward a referral letter.

From 1 May 2016, the service for patients in the north of the city is changing from Sirona care & health CIC to Bristol Community Health. The referral process and the staff for this service remain the same.
