Our staff produce a film to explain eye screening to patients

Innovative staff from our Diabetic Eye Screening service came up with an idea for an animated film to show the retinal screening process. The aim of the film is to help bridge patient language and communication barriers and aid understanding.

After reviewing the idea, the British Association of Retinal Screeners (BARS) were impressed with what they saw and granted funding for production. Our Diabetic Eye Screening service then worked alongside a professional artist to design and create the film. The finished article will soon be available on the BARS website for screening programmes nationwide to use in explaining the screening process to patients.

Rosie Bulford, one of our Diabetic Eye Screening Programme Managers, said: "The team and I are really pleased to have had the chance to create an informative and helpful video for patients.

"We are confident that it will make a positive contribution to their understanding of the retinal screening process and are grateful to the British Association of Retinal Screeners for enabling us to do this."

Our Diabetic Eye Screening service covers Bristol, Weston and Bath, and is part of the NHS Diabetic Eye Screening Programme. To find out more about the service, click here.
